ABOUT DR. DOBRZYKOWSKI
Dr. Dobrzykowski is a Full Professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at the University of Arkansas Sam M. Walton College of Business. He previously earned tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at Rutgers Business School (RBS) – Newark and New Brunswick (Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey) where he was RBS’ founding director of the Masters of Science in Healthcare Services Management.
He is an active educator and scholar whose research investigates information processing and the coordination of work processes. While his primary interest is in healthcare and regulated industries, his research also explores these phenomena in other operations and supply chain contexts. A summary of his dissertation was published in Decision Sciences, and his other peer reviewed publications have appeared in Production and Operations Management Journal, Journal of Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal, Journal of Business Logistics, and Journal of Supply Chain Management, among other scholarly outlets. He has been quoted in national media outlets such as NBC News, NPR Marketplace and Bloomberg Businessweek, and healthcare industry publications including Modern Healthcare, Becker’s Hospital Review and Hospital & Health Networks.
He has received a number of journal awards including the 2023 Journal of Business Logistics Bernard J. LaLonde Best Paper Award, the 2017 Decision Sciences Journal Best Paper Award, an Emerald Literati Network Outstanding Paper Award (2011), and three New Jersey Bright Ideas Awards for publishing one of the top 10 papers (out of over 140) published by New Jersey professors (two awards in 2016 and one in 2015). His conference research awards include the 2022 Decision Sciences Institute Best Theory Driven Empirical Paper Award, the 2015 Decision Sciences Institute’s Best Lean Enterprise Paper Award (1st Place Winner), the Distinguished Paper Award in the Healthcare Management Track at the Decision Sciences Institute 43rd Annual Meeting in 2012, Honorable Mention (first runner up) for his dissertation research at the 2011 Elwood S. Buffa Dissertation Competition at the Decision Sciences Institute 42nd Annual Meeting. Dr. Dobrzykowski was named “One of the Top 50 Healthcare Management Professors” (#32) by HealthcareAdministrator.org. He has been awarded nearly $200,000 in research funding (over $130,000 in external funding). His research has been presented on three continents and in seven countries, and he has provided over 150 managerial talks and/or conference presentations.
He is Department Editor of the Healthcare and Service Operations Department for Decision Sciences Journal, an Associate Editor for Journal of Operations Management, a member of the Editorial Review Board of Production and Operations Management Journal, Journal of Business Logistics, and Journal of Supply Chain Management. He was selected as Outstanding Reviewer of the Year by Decision Sciences Journal in 2015. He currently serves as President of Decision Sciences Institute and previously served as a President for POMS College of Healthcare Operations Management (POMS Healthcare College) and is an Academic Scholar at Cornell’s Institute for Healthy Futures.
He has taught/teaches a variety of courses at the undergraduate (BBA), graduate (MBA & MS), and Executive MBA levels. At the graduate level, he has taught: (1) Supply Chain Management, (2) Operations Analysis, (3) Healthcare Services Management, (4) Supply Chain Analytics, (5) Project Management, (6) Customer Relationship Management, (7) Marketing Strategy, and (8) Business Statistics. At the undergraduate level, he has taught: (9) Global Supply Chain Management (Capstone course), (10) Manufacturing and Service Systems, (11) Operations Management, (12) Information Technology Management, (13) Marketing Research and Database Management, and (14) Strategic Management (Capstone course). He was selected for the “Favorite Professor of the Year” Award by the Rutgers Business School MBA class of 2016.
Prior to academe, Dr. Dobrzykowski served in a variety of management and leadership roles in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors. His multi-faceted healthcare background includes positions with emergency department contract management, hospital tertiary care, managed care, physician-hospital, diagnostic imaging, and employee benefits organizations. While working in the provider vertical, Dr. Dobrzykowski served as Regional CEO of a national diagnostic imaging organization, where he managed all operations of an existing business while he launched three start-ups; successfully writing and securing more than $3 million in funding for three business plans. It is this rich portfolio of business experience that fuels his passion for teaching.
He is very active in the community as a Past President of UT’s Alumni Association, Past Chair of the Executive MBA Advisory Board, and Past Chair of the Pastoral Council at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish. Dr. Dobrzykowski has been recognized as the 2003 UT Outstanding Young Alum, the 2004 UT Volunteer of the Year, the 2005 UT Executive MBA Alumnus of the Year, the 2010 UT College of Business PhD Student Pacemaker, the 2011 UT College of Business and Innovation Outstanding Young Alum, and is a Toledo 20 Under 40 Leadership Award Recipient (from 2004).
